Ah, Life.
This day in October makes me elated to live in rural Wisconsin.
The colors, all the reds and yellows and oranges, are amplified by the rays of golden sun causing them to be even more pleasing to the eye. The magnificent scent of Autumn envelopes you as soon as you exit any building or vehicle. People coming together, whether they are aware of it or not, everyone thankful we have at least one more day of no snow.
It makes me think of my youth. Of raking leaves into a giant pile just to dive into them. Of carving pumpkins with my mother, then strategically placing the masterpieces on the front porch to spook the up and coming trick-or-treaters.
And of dressing up as a Green Crayola for as many years as I could still fit into the costume.
Now, as an adult, I find myself content just sitting outside in my favorite sweater watching the scenery around me change right before my eyes (although I would give anything to jump into a leaf pile without looking completely ridiculous). Something about this season, and this month in particular, that keeps a smile permanently adhered to my face.
Thank you, Fall.
